Water Project

Providing the residents of Limón with the necessary materials to lay over one and a half miles of pipes that once in place brought fresh water to more than 180 people.

Micro-businesses

Continuing to help fund micro-businesses, thereby empowering local residents to better their situation. Micro-businesses that are already underway include a sewing school and a personal water purification project for individuals, families, and small groups. The water purifiers were developed by the 501(c)3 non-profit organization Aqua Clara (For more about this organization please visit http://www.aquaclara.org/). Limón Aid members trained in the construction of these purifiers instructed several Limón residents and helped build multiple systems to use as examples throughout the town.

Limón Aid also assisted a crocheting endeavor by providing supplies and instruction, as well as purchasing some final products to sell. A new project centers on a group of knitters dedicated to improving their lives and the lives of those around them. These women make Prayer Shawls out of donated yarn. Limón Aid then turns their hard work into a triple blessing: two-thirds of the money from the sale of the shawls goes to the women workers, one-third goes to the orphanage, and the the final product goes to Hospice of Lansing and nursing home residents near Lansing, Michigan. In this way, the Honduran women can help provide for their families, support Limón orphans, and give warmth to those thousands of miles away. If you would like to participate in this program, you can purchase a Prayer Shawl online via PayPal for $15. Please note that the donation is for the Prayer Shawl Program. Also, if you live in the Lansing area and know someone you want the shawl to go to, please indicate that as well and we will try to accomodate your request.
